The Lahore High Court granted bail to Kahdija Shah in the May 9 riots case, after nearly five months in custody.

The decision was announced by a two-member bench led by Justice Aalia Neelum.

Shah, who is known for being the creative director of Elan is the daughter of former Finance Minister Salman Shah and granddaughter of former Army Chief General Asim Nawaz Janjua.

She was arrested two weeks after violent protests broke out across Pakistan immediately after Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 in the Toshakhana case in Islamabad.

The protests had turned particularly violent in Lahore, where the Corps Commander House, also known as Jinnah House, was attacked, vandlaised and burnt.

Shah is accused of being part of the protests in Lahore and of calling more people to join them.

A few days after her arrest, a video showing Shah apologising for her participation in the protest and pledging support to the armed forces had emerged on social media.
