Lahore and parts of Punjab anticipate a respite from scorching temperatures as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rain, wind, and thunderstorms over the coming days.
The relief comes as a westerly wave is poised to traverse upper and central regions of the country.
According to PMD reports, a continental air mass currently dominates most areas of Pakistan. However, the impending westerly wave is expected to usher in a change, commencing with partly cloudy conditions and the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Murree, Galyat, and their surroundings on Thursday night.
As the weekend approaches, the meteorological agency predicts widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms in several districts including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, and others. Notably, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Narowal are also expected to experience the wet spell, with isolated hailstorms likely.
The anticipated precipitation is welcomed news for residents grappling with temperatures soaring well above the seasonal norm. Lahore, in particular, has been sweltering under maximum temperatures reaching 40°C, while Dera Ghazi Khan recorded a scorching 46°C.
Relative humidity levels have also been a factor, with the evening hours offering little relief, as evidenced by readings as low as 14% in Dera Ghazi Khan and 31% in Lahore.
With the onset of rain and cooler conditions, authorities hope for a return to more comfortable temperatures, bringing relief to the populace from the recent heatwave. Lahore's maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 39-41°C during the anticipated wet spell.
