Pakistan and the United Kingdom convened the Pakistan-UK Regional Stability Conference at the National Defence University in Islamabad.
The inaugural meeting saw the participation of military leaders from both countries, including army chief General Asim Munir and British General Sir Patrick Sanders, both of whom addressed the gathering.
Accompanying General Sanders was General Sir Roland Walker, the chief of general staff-designate for Great Britain. A 30-member British delegation arrived in Pakistan on April 29 to participate in the conference.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), defence officials from Pakistan and the UK will present their perspectives on global and regional dynamics and their implications for regional peace and stability.
This year's conference marks a broadened scope of deliberations on regional issues, ISPR added.
In addition to the conference sessions, British generals held separate meetings with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. The discussions focused on professional matters and the further advancement of bilateral defence relations.
General Munir acknowledged the invaluable contributions of General Sanders in strengthening military ties between Pakistan and the UK.
Moreover, the army chief also extended his congratulations to General Walker on his nomination as the next chief of general staff of the UK.
The conference serves as a platform for strategic dialogue and exchange of ideas, reaffirming the commitment of Pakistan and the UK to promoting regional stability and security cooperation. As discussions progress, both countries are poised to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation in defence and security realms, fostering a safer and more stable environment in the region.
