    The Standing Committee for IT of the Senate has unanimously approved the Cyber Crime Bill to tighten the noose against those wrongfully using the Facebook, Twitter, Email, and cell phone.

    It will also help check acts of terrorism, killings, kidnappings, and fraud beause under the new law legal action could be taken against those involved in electronic crimes.

    The Act is named Act to stop Electronic Crime  under which data copied without permission will be liable for six-month imprisonment or Rs 100,000 fine while the penalty for access to unauthorized data will be punishable by five-year sentence of Rs 5 million fine.

    Promoting sectarian and racial hate could earn 14-year sentence or Rs 50 million fine or both.

    Investigations of cyber crimes could not be carried out without court’s permission.

    Representatives of civil society and other stake holders were also present during the approval of the said Bill.

    National Assembly has already passed the Bill and after its approval by the Committee it will be passed by the Senate after which it will be signed by the President.
